Texture on the RunwayImage: TextureMedia

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of attending my first Texture On The Runway show presented by TextureMedia and sponsored by Target. I must say it was an extremely unique  and memorable experience. I’ve been to a lot of fashion shows and events in my time, but none of them made me feel as special and at home as this one. Being in a space with beautiful women who embraced their textured hair from curls to locks really made this fashion week so special. As a natural hair gal myself, sometimes it is refreshing to see beauty being embraced in so many different ways, by so many different people with the same goal in one place. Since this was truly an experience I thought we should break it down here on the blog.

The Arrival

Texture On The Runway (hashtag #Textureontherunway) was held at the beautiful City Winery in SoHo, NY. The space was turned into a fashion venue equipped with a catwalk and plenty of space for sponsors to showcase their products. The turn out was insane with approximately 400+ guests which included media outlets and beauty/fashion influencers.

The Show

After getting ourselves situated in front of the stage, co-emcee’s, co-founder of TextureMedia Michelle Breyer and the founder of Afrobella Patrice Grell Yursik, said their introductions and kicked off the show.

The Conclusion

After the show, the DJ went into full drive with some of today’s hits and guests were able to get their food and drink on while mingling with fellow texturnistas at the sponsor tables. My friend and I made our rounds and asked a million questions to these experts to help us achieve the perfect textured hair; which by the way was truly informative. I was in complete awe at the beauties in the room and how everyone had picture perfect hair. My friend and I realized that we truly have to do better because when you learn to embrace your texture then you can really learn how to make it work. It is all a work in progress, but we have to start somewhere. I am the queen of protective styles. A good weave or braided do is my go-to, but after attending this showcase I feel like it may be time for me to rock my natural hair out for a little while. We received a million products from the event and I genuinely want to experiment with them all so now may be my time to do so.

Overall, this was one of the most amazing runways I’ve seen in a while and it is soley due to the concept and experience that surrounded it. Job well done! I hope to attend the next one.
