I’ve been looking for a good opportunity to rock my Candy Bomb tee and lucky for me I was able to rock it this week.
The Candy Bomb Apparel Icon T-shirt collection is a collaboration between Claire Sulmers, Fashion Bomb Daily Editor-in-Chief and fashionista and Nicole Updegraff, illustrator and owner of Cotton Candy Playground. The tees highlight black icons in music, entertainment and fashion, which is what attracted me to them. When I found out about this collaboration I was beyond impressed simply because it is always refreshing to see two ladies using their platforms to enhance awareness.
I knew when I decided to put on my tee I would have to be prepared to answer questions and sure enough I was right. I cannot even express how many times someone said to me “Oh wow your t-shirt is cool. Who is that?”
Of course inside I did an eye roll because globally we all know and love icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. However; somewhere down the line black icons like Dorothy Dandridge, Eartha Kitt and Josephine Baker were overlooked to the masses. It is really sad, but at the end of the day that is why awareness is promoted. So I did my part by shedding a little light about who Dorothy Dandridge was.
I’m pretty sure people did not expect a history lesson when they inquired about my tee, but knowledge is power and at least they can all say they learned something new that day.
Moving along, after doing my part for the day it was time to profile with my new awesome tee.

I went casual with my tee, chic with the skirt and edgy with the boots. I completed the look with a pop of color on the lips. I adore my Candy Bomb tee and will be purchasing another one. I am thinking Josephine Baker this time. I also have to give a shout out to Sy over at StillettoSwap for my embellished booties. Too cute!
