As I was pinning on Pinterest last night, I came across a really enlightened quote from screenwriter Nora Ephron: “Whatever you choose, however many roads you travel, I hope that you choose not to be a lady I hope you will find some way to break the rules and make a little trouble out there. And I also hope that you will choose to make some of that trouble on behalf of women”I thought these were simple, but true words. They express the idea of women being independent and true to who they are. I think it reflects how human we are. Figuring out who we are and learning from our mistakes is not only encouraged, but necessary. If it were not for the incredible women over generations who were true to themselves and stood up for what they believed in, regardless if they stood alone, then the progression we have witnessed would not be so prevalent today – just some food for thought.

Speaking of progression, as with anything, is what has happened with fashion over the years and it has evolved the faces of fashionistas today. Fashion lovers are bolder, trendier and consistently embracing their personal style. As mentioned before, I have deemed the month of March here on Yannid.net “Fashionista Chronicles” which gives me a chance to share with you fashion I love and the women that know how to rock it.

In honor of the 86th Academy Awards tonight hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, this week we will start off with my favorite Film/TV Actresses who run fashion and look amazing doing it.

Our first March Fashionista is: Lupita Nyong’o

Fashionista Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita is one amazing woman that embodies the quote above and that is better illustrated in her epic speech at the Essence Hollywood Luncheon (here). She gave a beautiful speech about skin color and loving who you are.

Either way, we all know who she is so no introduction is necessary. When we see her on the red carpet the phrases that come to mind are: “Fabulous”, “Yes, love the red”, and “That was made for her”. Every time we see her she looks more radiant and fashion forward than the last time we saw her. She has repeatedly shut down several red carpets with her impeccable gift of hitting the nail on the head with her look. Above are some of her best looks to me, but let us not forget she looks amazing in anything she wears. I cannot wait to see her look tonight on the red carpet.

All week I will be coming to you with more of my favorite Film/TV fashionistas….STAY TUNED!

Also, do not forget to check out the Academy Awards tonight or at least just the red carpet if that is your preference. I will be doing a mini recap of my favorite looks as well.
